Transcontinental Does More Again, This Time in French

Montreal, January 16, 2008 – Transcontinental Media, Canada’s leading publisher of consumer magazines, today announced that in the fall of this year, it will introduce a French edition of More magazine, which targets the 40+ women’s demographic. Transcontinental currently publishes the English edition of More magazine in Canada. This addition builds on the exclusive, multi-year licensing agreement with Meredith Corporation announced in May 2006, and brings Transcontinental Media’s magazine portfolio total to over 40 publications.

The Canadian edition of More magazine, first published in March 2007, was an unprecedented success with readers and advertisers alike: the number of subscriber copies reached over 80,000 per issue, doubling predictions. The U.S. version of More magazine has tripled its circulation since it was launched in 1998. In 2006, it was named Magazine of the Year by Advertising Age.

“With the success of More in Canada, we confirmed we had a magazine that neither our readers nor our advertisers had ever seen before, and they were hungry for it,” said Francine Tremblay, senior vice president of consumer magazines, Transcontinental Media. “More magazine speaks to a unique niche, and it’s obvious to us that niche exists among French-speaking women as well. Transcontinental’s experience and success with magazines like Canadian Living and its French counterpart Coup de pouce is based on content that is unique to both editions and relevant in each language.”

The as-yet unnamed French edition will be headed by Sylvie Poirier, who will leave her current position as editor-in-chief of ELLE QUÉBEC, a Transcontinental publication she has been a part of for seven years. Replacing Ms. Poirier as interim editor is Catherine Elie, former editor of Châtelaine. Chantal Ares, currently art director at ELLE QUÉBEC, will take the lead in the same position at the new publication.

More magazine targets women over 40 who are accomplished, confident, influential and who take time for themselves. With features on topics including health, beauty, fashion, food and lifestyle, finance, foreign and national affairs, the arts and travel, More gives women what they want to get more out of life.
