Closure of Transcontinental Concord and Transcontinental Edmonton printing plants
Montreal, October 23, 2014 – Transcontinental Inc. (TSX: TCL.A, TCL.B) announced today that it will be closing its Transcontinental Concord printing plant at 89 Connie Crescent in Concord, Ontario, and its Transcontinental Edmonton printing plant at 18,130, 114th Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta, at the end of December 2014.
"We are always looking at possible solutions to maximize our print platform," said Jacques Grégoire, President of the Printing division of Transcontinental Inc. "Our recent analyses have led us to close the Concord and Edmonton facilities in order to consolidate our production in state-of-the-art plants which will increase our efficiency and utilisation rate. In light of the current market environment, we are pursuing our review and are examining various options to continue responding appropriately to demand while remaining cost-effective for our customers."
Unfortunately, this reorganization will result in a total of 120 layoffs. Transcontinental Inc. thanks these employees for their dedicated contribution to the company and will ensure that they are accompanied in their transition to other employment.
